Karen was born in Muskogee, Oklahoma on
August 14, 1952. She is the daughter of Joe and Bettye Cable, who still reside
in Muskogee.
Karen attended Baylor University in 1970 and obtained her law
degree in 1975. In January 1976 she was licensed to practice law and became
an Assistant District Attorney in McLennan County.
In 1982 she left the District
Attorney’s Office and entered the private practice of law. Karen is a member
of Lake Shore Baptist Church where she has served as Chair of the Board of Deacons,
the Finance Committee, the Personnel Committee, the Youth Committee, Church Moderator and has
taught the senior high Sunday School class for fourteen years.
Karen was married to the late Raymond Matkin for twenty-five years.
